We are the Association of Lulu’s Return, Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Lulu was a child travelling to the Netherlands in 1925 on the well-known “children-train” from Hungary in order to get better, feel stronger and have some happiness, rather than the pain and sorrow in Hungary where hundreds of thousands families were suffering due to the lost World-War I, and the consequences of the Trianon Agreements. Henriette Kuyper, the dochter of the premier initiated the campaign to support the children in such way. Due to her and her followers’ strong dedication, hundred thousand children travelled and got better until 1948, when the last train arrived back to Budapest.
Lulu was also such a child, who came to the Netherlands only for couple of month, but at the end she settled and died in the year of 70s.
The association is collecting the stories of the travellers and the orginisers, furthermore makes research for the emotion film of Lulu’s Return by Benedict Schilleman.
